NORDIC THINGS
The last time I really spent time in Sweden is ages ago, so being back in the place where I spent many holidays as a child recalled lots of memories and brought them back to life. Even more special as I got to share it with my dad, something that doesn’t happen too often.
This little house in the forest, which could also be a museum of how life was decades and even centuries ago, let’s you connect with your environment and - even tho it is in Europe - is a great escape is a great escape from the mad part of the world we are currently living in.
Being here means that the basic requirements of life and living are in the foreground of your thoughts and actions as the standard here is very basic too and far from luxury. Sure there is electricity, water and internet but that’s it. If you want it warm you have to stick on a fire, therefor you gotta chop wood when it’s time to do so. The cooking is done with gas, to dry your clothing you have to put it in a line which obviously only works when it’s a bit windy and doesn’t rain.
For going grocery shopping you have to drive about 30 minutes minimum, so shopping has to be planned as well. Also a lot from your nutrition is directly taken out of the nature, like vegetables from the garden, mushroom from the forest or fish from the lake. And of course the preparation of these has to be done by yourself too - ever gutted a fish yet?
And, of course, maintaining the house and it’s surroundings takes a great part of your attention, as it is almost completely built of natural materials that have to be repaired or replaced from time to time. Then you have to maintain all the trees and wildly growing plants to make sure they don’t fall on your house during the next storm.
And then you also can just enjoy the nature, peace and quietness this place offers with long hikes, campfires, magnificent sunrises (from May on it doesn’t really get dark at nighttime any more, and sun rises already at 4am!), looking out for animals (moose, of course, and others) or you just chill out in the hammock and read a book.
We did all of the above mentioned - a bit of work, a bit of nature and a bit of doing sweet nothing were our daily routines. In my latest vlog episode you can see how all this looked like! Oh, and I also recommend you take a look into the images section of this page!
I really enjoyed the time here, and having things in the Nordic way is a situation I can live quite well with - and as along as Covid-19 keeps me form returning to South America I might just as well spent a bit more time in this place soon!
For now it’s back to the continent to see what comes next!
