VLOG WORKING ROUTINES
To fill time while being locked down, I came up with the idea to start a new series of (video) content, in which I want to share some experiences I am collecting along the way: best practices in regard to equipment, working, blogging, vlogging, video and photography.
After presenting my 5 most important travelling items last week, I’d like to give an insight on how producing videos / vlogs while travelling looks like for me, as I always like to see how other people do their stuff and enjoy watching the insights they are publishing - maybe this one’s interesting for one of you thinking about doing something similar, so here we go with an overview on how do I work and what equipment do I actually have with me (spoiler: it’s no rocket science)!
As I am only travelling with 2 bags of a cumulated 25kg, there is only little space for tech equipment and photography items (as I’m only at the beginnig of my photography career I don’t really own more also, so there weren’t really tough decisions to make while packing my bags). Here is an overview of the vlogging equipment I’m having with me:
Camera (Fuji X-T100)
GoPro Hero (2014)
Mobile phone (iPhone 7)
Notebook (Macbook of 2008 – with a newer one work would be SO MUCH EASIER!
Tripod to mount camera or phone
Additional battery for camera
External battery charge
An old-fashioned notebook (the thing with the empty sheets that works in combination with a pen, remember?)
All the cables necessary
A piece of good advice for you on what I should have done before going on the journey: I definitely should have equipped myself with a notebook that is a bit more up to date than the one I have. I am very limited in what I can do with it, only typing the texts for my blog and cutting the raw material of my camera / GoPro into the pieces I need. Luckily I found a few good apps that actually allow me to do all the editing of the clips on my mobile - if not doing such a thing like a vlog would be impossible. Now I have to spend a lot of time on up- and downloading the files between notebook and mobile phone and am always depending on an internet connection – something that I definitely have to improve in order to work just better!
In the video below you’ll see how I use all this and how my processes and current environment looks like!
